The Isle of May

July 31, 2008

On Tuesday we went to the Isle of May. It is a tiny island off the East Coast of Scotland which is now purely a nature reserve. My family, spend a week each summer together in St. Andrews, where my Gramp lives. Many years ago whilst on this holiday some of the family went to the island, so a repeat trip was organised for this year.

The exciting bit about the Isle of May is the existence of thousands, upon thousands of puffins. It isn’t the kind of bird you see when you live in Essex or Kent.

It was slightly spoilt by the mist and fog. At times as we journeyed out in the morning you couldn’t see further than 20-30 metres. That did mean that many of the photos we took weren’t great either. But I’m glad to have had the opportunity to see another part of God’s beautiful creation.
