Monday update

September 22, 2008

The weekend that was: Friday night was busy with leading devotions for Boys and Girls Brigade and then helping to co-ordinate Amicus (our 14-18 yr olds group) for the evening.  For the devotions we’re adapting He’s the Man outlines from Simply Youth Ministry.  This week was looking at who Jesus is.

Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Brigade leadership training.  Whilst some of it I knew, there were some good discussions, especially on the topic of empowerment (thanks John for the way you ran that session).  I began to understand about more about drill and parade – something I’m going to be spending more time on in the next few weeks.

In the evening we had a mini re-union of the tent leaders from the camp that Hannah and I helped out with earlier in the summer.  It was great to catch up with everyone, and we got to try out the recipe to Apple Oat, if you’re lucky I might post it here.

Sunday was a family parade service, and a chance to meet our prospective new Children’s Team Leader.  The service was good, and Hannah and I had lunch with her, and Paul and Astrid.  It was great to hear some of her thoughts, espeically as to what kind of music should be played in the office.  I was speaking again at Senior SNR (14-18 year olds), and carrying on our theme of Old School Good Guys we looked at Noah – especially around persistence and obedience.  Phil, on our oyung people led a great little session  of worship at the end as we spent time sharing and praying together.

On my to-do list this week: Diary dates for the next 18 months, we’re trying to do more joined up thinking, in terms of when different courses run.  I’m leading Club Sunday (5-11 year olds – I think) next Sunday morning so a chunk of time will be spent preparing for that.

Procrastinating about: Being efficient – I need to be more structured to fit everything in.

Book I’m in the midst of: Really enjoying reading Convergence – The Spiritual Journey of a Charismatic Calvinist by Sam Storms.

Music that I’ve been working along to: A whole load of Soul Survivor stuff more recently.

How i’m feeling about this week: Determined.
