I’ve had the privilege this last week of speaking at one of the holiday clubs that Carroty Wood run during the summer for 9-13 year olds. There have been approximately 30 young people each day, with a senior instructor, four others instructors and four young volunteers.
It’s a great concept, throughout the day they make use of the wonderful site to do activities such as kayaking, high-ropes, archery, pedal karting, abseiling, climbing, It’s a Knockout, etc., and then they end each day with some games, team points, and a 30 minute session on faith and God.
I’ve used the following structure this week:
- Who do you think Jesus was/is? (Jesus)
- What is the problem? (sin)
- What is the solution? (the cross and resurrection)
- What does faith mean? (faith)
- What next? (prayer and the Bible)
The instructors and volunteers have been great this week, really getting alongside the young people and hanging out with them. If I’m honest I feel like I’ve kind of let the side down, as I could only be there 2.00-5.00pm due to also preparing for running our camp in a week’s time.
It’s been great to see young people engaging with and beginning to think about their spiritual journey.
