2010 seemed to be a limited year for music, with the end of the year being stronger than the start.  Highlights for me this year included:

My number one discovery of the year was Jon Schmidt, and as we came into Christmas especially his albums Winter Serenade and Christmas.  I found his music becuase of the great Love Story meets Viva la Vida youtube.  He is mainly a piano player which makes him a great choice for music to work to, and we’ve also used some of his music as a background to our youth work on a Sunday evening.  Another Christmas discovery was Bright Lights by Ellie Goulding, made famous for her wonderful remake of Your Song.

For those of you who know my cheese based music collection it will be no surprise that Glee: The Music, Volume 1 by Glee Cast made it into my favourite 2010 music.  Another unsurprising choice was Left Right Left Right Left by Coldplay, a collection of some of their best songs sung live.

A little bit more random is my fascination with Conditions by The Temper Trap, I came to their music, as I’m sure many others have, off the back of `Sweet Disposition’ and it has quickly become one of my favourite albums of the year.  xx by The XX is a beautiful piece of artwork, the tracks are like an attack on the senses as you feel the passion and hard work behind each and every detail in the tracks, it is an album that will take you on a journey around the musical and vocal talents of The XX.

My most recent discovery has been Teen Dream by Beach House.  I love this album, it was recommended to me on spotify and amazon as something I might like.  I was given a copy of this album for Christmas and it’s my second big discovery of the year, I love this album and the bands other material on spotify.
