If A Short History of the Book of Common Prayer by William Reed Huntington is the “short” version, the extended history would be overwhelming.  This is a rather comprehensive tome on the theological debate that has existed as the Book of Common Prayer has survived the centuries.

An understanding of the background of the Book of Common Prayer makes one marvel at the accomplishments as well as to discover that it truly is a miracle that we even have a Prayer Book.  However, the book does feel rather tedious and long-winded – not one to read unless you have a real interest in this area.
