Enjoy the silenceWe used Enjoy the Silence: A 30-day Experiment in Listening to God by Duffy and Maggie Robbins a lot on our summer camp.  It’s a book that uses that encourages you to slow down as you read God’s word – to hear to spend time Lectio Divina (deeply listening), to Meditatio (thinking, chewing it over) and Oratio (talking to God in prayer), followed lastly by Contemplatio (resting in God’s presence).

Duffy and Maggie have chosen 30 different passages that encourage you to dig deeper into God’s word.  Instead of using them as inidividuals or in small groups we actually used a number of them within our corporate worship, encouraging us to slow down and come into God’s presence.  Many of the young people commented on how much they enjoyed the guided readings.

If you don’t own a copy, I recommend getting hold of one – it had a big impact on our young people.
