Fergal Keane’s Letter to Daniel – Despatches from the Heart is one of those books that isn’t enjoyable to read, but is a very good read. It follows some of Fergal Keane’s thoughts, articles and broadcasts through his role as a foreign correspondent for the BBC. The book touches on the journey South Africa went to under Nelson Mandela, the craziness of Rwanda, his friendship with the Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and so on. It gives information, culture, and a glimpse of his heart and emotions as he dealt with those situations.
It isn’t light reading – but it is well worth reading.
