This afternoon I read the small book True Leadership by Colin Urquhart. Over the 63 page book he outlines key biblical principles for leadership. He starts from the perspective that true leadership has to be based on a relationship with God that focuses on the word and Spirit and is prophetic. He then goes on to look at qualities of a true leader:
- prayer
- vision
- action
- obedient to the Holy Spirit
- dwells on the Word
- teach the Word
- a good example
The starting paragraph of chapter 7 sums up the whole book:
The best spiritual leaders, at whatever level, are men and women of the Spirit rather than those who depend on their natural giftings and abilities.
The book is a nice theological introduction to leadership.
