Warrior Sports are Liverpool’s new kit suppliers

Adidas backed out of renewing LIverpool’s kit deal as they weren’t overly impressed with the club’s performance. No matter. The Reds have reached an agreement with US based Warrior Sports that is worth £25m a year for 6 years, which more than Man Utd’s annual £23.5m deal with Nike.

New Balance, the parent company of Warrior Sports, is also the supplier to the Boston Red Sox which is owned by John Henry’s Fenway Sporting Group, which also owns Liverpool. Connections do matter.

As with many infographics this data is based from America, but it has much to apply to the UK situation. Some key points

1. Use of technology - 75% on a social networking site and 20% having posted a video. This is a generation who socialise, create content and believe in the use of technology in all spheres of life. How as youth workers are we using technology beyond having a Facebook page or showing YouTube clips?

2. Without a religion – 25% are without a religion. Are we as youth workers telling the same gospel story that we heard? How are we retelling the story of the gospel to this generation of fresh ears, does the emphasis need to change?

3. Unemployment – With youth employment at an all time high in th UK. How are youth workers preparing a generation for potential unemployment?

Christmas dinner increasingly expensive

The traditional Christmas turkey roast and trimmings will have cost you a lot more in 2011.

According to the Office for National Statistics recent report some of the ingredients have risen by over 50%! Whilst some like carrots and potatoes have actually fallen on average, bacon and sausages have gone up by well over 10%, red wine by over 14%, turkey itself up nearly 4% and crackers for your cheese course up a whopping 51%.

Goalkeeper scores a goal!

Tim Howard refused to celebrate despite becoming only the fourth goalkeeper to score in the history of the Premier League with a freak goal from inside his own area in Everton’s home match against Bolton.

His clearance from a back pass bounced about 30 yards from the Bolton goal and was blown by the wind over visiting keeper Adam Bogdan, who was standing on the edge of his own six-yard line. Howard, who was making his 250th appearance for Everton, didn’t react out of consideration for Bogdan and was walking back to his own goal when he was mobbed by teammates.

“It’s not a nice place to be, I’ve been there before – a long, long time ago – and that was why I didn’t celebrate.”

The only other goalkeepers to score in the Premier League’s 20 years are Peter Schmeichel (2001), Howard’s fellow American Brad Friedel (2004) and Paul Robinson (2011).
