This has to be one of the most bizarre stories in the footballing world recently: Ronaldinho to end up at Manchester City. Manchester City are a big club, but if you were to compile a list of clubs that could potentially sign the Brazilian from Barcelona, it would look something like this: AC Milan, Inter Milan, Chelsea etc. City’s name wouldn’t figure at all.
But it could happen. According to the Guardian:
extensive talks over the weekend concluded with Ronaldinho mulling over a contract [with City] that would make him the best-paid footballer in the world.
If that happens it would blow City’s wage structure out of the water, which surely only means that Mark Hughes ends up with a load of annoyed players outside his office door. To me it makes more sense, not to buy a player who doesn’t really seem bothered, and in many ways is past his best (although Beckham has shown recently that isn’t always true), and to invest in four or five up and coming talents from Euro 2008.
What do you think?
