I’m absolutely convinced that it is crucial that we allow space in our youth programmes for young people to get to know each other and to get to know us.  We’ll never have an opportunity to really dig deeper with them spiritually if they don’t feel comfortable.  I love running socials in a youth ministry programme that are meals.  Here’s a few reasons why:

  • It allows space to have conversation without the focus being on them, and therefore potentially embarrassing them.
  • You therefore find out more what they really think, and you get to share more of your story, your testimony.
  • Young people love food and they see it as a real treat to spend a few hours eating together.
  • It makes them feel more adult-like, which especially with 11-14 year olds is really helpful.

How about you, what socials do you find helpful in your youth ministry?
