The weekend that was: Busy with work. Friday was the first night back for the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade and Amicus. It was a good night – some great ideas from Amicus (our 14-18s) on what they want to do this term – some exciting ideas if we can pull them off.

Saturday was the Youth Leadership Vision day – we spent time together dreaming how would we like to see the youth ministry in 2020 (Eleven years away) and then breaking that down to 1, 3, and 5 years away.  It was a really good time with some very exciting stuff, and it’s been great to watch the team come together as they’ve done this dreaming.  Hopefully in the next few months we’ll have something to post here, once it’s been to elders and the rest of the youth volunteers.  The rest of Saturday was spent finalising prep for the family service the next day, and Junior SNR (our 11-14s on a Sunday evening), and having a quick go on the Wii Fit that Hannah got, via Steve and Dave – big thanks guys.

Sunday was one of those really busy Sundays.  Parade service in the morning looking at Jonah, and how we see God’s heart for the lost through it.  Challenging people to persist in praying for their family and friends to come to know Jesus.  After a quick lunch and snooze, we were back at church for church meeting and then the evening service.  Yesterday was the time when our church gets together to covenant, to agree to be faithful to God’s calling on our individual lives and the wider church’s life.  In one sense it causes all kinds of havoc to our normal Sunday night youth set up, but we had some great results: 3 extra volunteers came to hang out with our 11-14s, if we can find one or two more then that group can continue beyond February; some of the 11-14s were responding in new ways last night in terms of getting involved in the worship; some great pastoral conversations afterwards with several young people about rubbish in their life.

So a busy weekend!

Procrastinating about: I’ve not really procrastinated about house stuff yet but I’ve got to get a lot done this week to make the move on Thursday and Friday smooth.

Book I’m in the midst of: Now I’ve finished re-reading lots of youth ministry books for the 2020 Vision Document I’m back to normality.  Getting into Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul by John Eldredge.

Music that I’ve been working along to: Loving Keane’s album Perfect Symmetry, just great tunes.

How I’m feeling about this week: Worried – we exchanged contracts with our buyers on our house in Essex, and so are due to move all our stuff out by Friday, but at the moment, the place we’re due to move into seems to have gone belly up and so we need to find somewhere to store it all and so on.  Could be a very long weekend.
