Nigel points out the survey commisioned by Newsround of 1000 children, aged 6-12, in the UK. Some interesting points including:
  • 1 in 4 don’t count their fathers as immediate family
  • 74% like school
  • 62% feel their parents worry about them too much
  • Most want to play outside – not on their computer
  • 66% want to help the environment
  • And they think Britain is a great place to live

  1. You have focused on short-term recruitment here, Chris, but there is also the more strategic “grow your own” option. Although many of the young people will head off to Uni and break the chain of their involvement as a young leader, we would hope to see some of them return to the youth work afterwards (and should probably be doing more to nurture and build those who are staying around).
