Obama has been given the Nobel Peace Prize, much to the distress of many commentators around the world.
The committee have spoken in explaining their choice of his: “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said.
“His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population,” it said.
Whilst I understand the concerns many have over what has Obama actually done, he has created a sense of hope not just in America but around the world. As a number of leadership experts have also pointed out the best leadership starts with principles and values first and from these flows the tasks and outcomes. Obama’s principles and values are very clearly about bring hope and peace, about trying to make the world a better place. Let’s hope this award strengthens his work.
