I often hear people talking about quality time and how it is all about the quality – especially in regards to family and friends. I understand why they do that but I think it ignores the sense in which quality in a relationship normally only comes from spending large amounts of time together. Sure you can have quantity time without quality time, but I don’t think you can ever have quality time without quantity. You can’t predict or diarise the most important quality conversations you will have with your family or a good friend. It’s only by spending hours together that those times emerge, perhaps for only a few minutes, it’s why I’m trying to cement more time in my diary for hanging out with family and friends.
