Interesting article here from the Gospel Coalition blog.

Over the last two years there has been some great discussion that I’ve seen regarding the benefits and disadvantages of short-term mission trips.  There are some challenging thoughts – do they help or hurt; who do they benefit?  These are not simple questions with simple answers, but I believe youth workers need to wrestle with these issues.

Two initial quick thoughts:

  • Relationships matter – I think mission is much more powerful when it is consistent and leads to friendship and true partnership – I always prefer this over a hit and run concept.
  • Short-term mission trips are an important part of encouraging people to consider and test a long-term missionary calling.
