Last night I sat in a meeting which looked at the possibility of forming a Youth Association for the voluntary sector youth organisations and as I sat there I was struck by a couple of things

  • Voluntary sector groups have a lot of needs (e.g. transport drivers) but also have a lot of resources (e.g. a venue which is free 3 or 4 nights a week) – how can we better at sharing needs and offering each other resources.
  • There was only one ‘true’ volunteer there – volunteers don’t have time for general meetings – we must not replicate regional and national structures that existing organisations already have.
  • Partnership requires commitment – are we up for it – some said yes, some weren’t sure, only time will tell in our case.

How about your area – do you have a youth association for voluntary sector groups?
