This last week we’ve spent some time on holiday with my family (over the week there were 10 of us spread over two houses) in the wonderful place of St Andrews in Scotland. This holiday is an annual event as we all come and visit my Grandpa who is now in an old peoples home, but as lived in St Andrews for over 50 years.
Below are four highlights from our week:
- Gramp: above all it was great to spend time with Gramp, and for Daniel (our five and a half month old) to visit his Great Grandpa for the first time. Highlights included a trip to the Botanical Gardens Open Day and lots of visits for ice cream.
- Beauty and Friendliness: St Andrews is a city I love coming back to because it’s so small, beautiful and especially friendly. You never get lost in it, and even with some early morning walks to get Daniel back to sleep you see some amazing views. Lastly, you just about always receive both wonderful customer service in the shops etc. and meet very friendly people in the street.
- Ice-cream and food: apart from hanging out with Gramp my other highlight is always trips to Jannettas. My wife, Hannah, has decided to try over a few years to eat all 52 flavours – this year’s favourites include pineapple, apple pie, ferrero rocher to name just a few. We also had a lovely meal out at The Grill House Restaurant to celebrate six years of marriage – very reasonably priced, and again great service.
- The Aquarium: Daniel loved his visit to St Andrews Aquarium seeing all the different fish and spending time with Uncle Mike and Auntie Elise.
