Another book from pile of ‘ancient’ youth ministry books was The Christian Youth Manual by Steve Chalke.  Again although written in 1992 much of the principles of the book remain true for youth ministry in 2010.  What I found very interesting was Part Four – Projects where Steve outlined a number of projects that he’d tried running – for example, drama group, open youth work, coffee bar.  Steve is one of my predecessors at Tonbridge Baptist Church so it’s interesting to see what things he tried 20 years ago, how did they work, and how we’re still reinventing some of those projects, for example of our new tbcYouth Cafe as a new version of the coffee bar that stopped many years ago.  Maybe I should take it to the next level and see if I can get 30 minutes with Steve himself to hear more of these stories.

Married to the amazing Sarah and raising Jakey, Daniel, Amelia, Josh & Jonah in our blended family. Passionate for Jesus, social work & sport.
