I spent the day training children’s and youth leaders from Upper Beeding Baptist Church.  We started with some devotionals, and then tried to dig into youth culture with a brief introduction to Media and Social Media and Young People and Sexuality which included some great contributions and debate from the volunteer team sharing their experience.

Following some phenomenal cake we then unpacked the concept of the Middle Class Syndrome, a difficult issue for many local churches in the UK; much of this session was based on The Road to Whatever: Middle-Class Culture and the Crisis of Adolescence by Elliott Currie.

After another coffee break I shared some of my experience of guiding tbcYouth (the youth ministry of Tonbridge Baptist Church) through the process of creating  Vision Documents.

Hopefully the sessions were helpful for their leadership team – if the powerpoints are any use to you feel free to adapt them – equally if I can be of any use in helping to provide training for volunteer children’s and youth leaders do get in touch.
