Dave Kraft has written a fantastic blog post on speaking more than listening:

Experience has taught me most leaders speak more than listen, and most people prefer being listened to than talked to.

When I genuinely listen to someone, they are more open to consider what I have to say. As I lead, I believe most of the time, I contribute my best to that person by listening rather than talking.

I tend to think I’m gifted in speaking and teaching, so listening well is an ongoing struggle for me. Often I only half listen while half thinking about what I want to say, waiting for my opportunity to speak my words of wisdom, which my warped and sinful mind concludes are more important than others’.
