Liverpool Football Club advance to the knockout rounds of the Europa League with victory over Udinese after Jordan Henderson fired his first goal of the season in the 23 minute mark.  It was Henderson’s third strike for the club after he joined for £16m in the summer of 2011 – and his first since May 8.

Rodgers was full of praise for his young Liverpool squad for their determination and spirit to progress into the knockout stage of the Europa League.  He told his post-match press conference in Italy:

“I thought we were fantastic tonight.  We had two objectives coming into this stage of the tournament. Firstly, tonight was our 10th game in the tournament and qualification was important. Secondly, we wanted to give some experience to our younger players.

We were in a difficult group with good teams – teams with good Champions League experience and one of the richest teams in the world.  But the mentality of the team was very strong and our desire and belief was very strong. We won and that is good for our future.”

Lets hope we can follow this up with a much needed win at West Ham this weekend.
