Liverpool’s 3-2 win over West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday has propelled them into 10th place in the Premier League table, just 4 points behind fourth place Everton.
It was the first time this season the Reds recorded back-to-back league wins and Liverpool’s recent strong run in Premier league has seen them lose only once in their past 11 matches. The Reds face the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham, Stoke, QPR and Sunderland in the next four week and Gerrard believes if Liverpool capitalizes on the momentum they have started to generate, then Reds are sure to fight for the champions league spot.
“I’m really pleased with the lads. It was a fantastic performance. I think before the game people were doubting us and thinking we would be a bit toothless in the final third without our top striker. But we’ve gone away from home, scored three goals and got the three points we came here for.
We’re building slowly towards where we want to be. We’ve got two home games now against Aston Villa and Fulham. If we can capitalise and make it 12 points out of 12 then we will find ourselves a lot closer to fourth.”
Liverpool will face Aston Villa followed by Fulham (both the fixture scheduled at anfield) in the coming weeks and considering the recent good momentum, we should be aiming for 6 points from these 2 fixtures which will help Liverpool get in touching distance with fourth place.
With transfer January transfer window nearing, lets hope FSG pump in some money for Rodgers to get Liverpool’s much needed No 9.
Do you think we now have a chance of competing for forth place? How do you think we will go in these next 5 games?
