The weekend that was: With last week being half-term it was a different kind of weekend.  Friday night was spent at church whilst the youth band rehearsed for Sunday night’s service.  I managed to break the back of my sermon prep which was a very positive thing.

Saturday was spent with our friends Heather and Rich.  We went over to Leeds Castle for the day, the weather was perfect so a lovely do not doing too much.  The castle itself is fairly small but the grounds are beautiful and the falconry exhibition was wonderful.

I spent most of my time on Sunday focussing on the evening service which I and the young people were leading.  It was based on our weekend away theme of ‘Worship’.  We had a great night, and God seemed to really meet with a good number of people.  I was nervous ‘preaching’ in the big church for the first time but it seemed to go well.

On my task list this week: sorting event for the end of the summer term and getting some ideas down onto paper.

Procrastinating about: Sorting my big box of paperwork that I’ve been carrying around with me, and just sitting down and writing some of my ideas down in slightly more formal papers.

Book I’m in the midst of: Started Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Music that I’ve been working along to: Zero 7 has been big on my iPod list this last week.

How I’m feeling about this week: Happy.

Married to the amazing Sarah and raising Jakey, Daniel, Amelia, Josh & Jonah in our blended family. Passionate for Jesus, social work & sport.

  1. thanks for the reminder …. it’s a book i keep going back to. I’m trying to restructure my days at the moment so there’s a good balance between admin/management, getting input (reading and prayer) and spending time with young people.
It’s amazing how much time youth workers spend at their desks!

    1. I like the idea of the restructure, let us know how it goes, as our ministry grows I seem to spend more time being a manager than a minister which at times is fine but at other times seems to have missed the point.

  2. Tapped into your messages through your name being highlighted by a speaker coming to Houston, Texas (USA) that was impressed by you at the Lausanne Conference. As a pastor, I am impressed by your observations of the need to spend more quality time with the youth to build good relationships. It was my Dad’s dilemma as a pastor, and it certainly is & has been a challenge for me with my own children and the others we attempt to reach in the inner-city 3rd Ward area of Houston. Keep up the good work Chris. I will get the book. Pray for us here in America & my church–Houston Praise And Worship Center–in particular. We will pray for you. Blessings! Bishop/Atty. Frank A. Rush
