The weekend that was: A mixed up weekend, this was the transition weekend for our year 6s to move up into our youth work, so lots of change and new faces.  Friday night seemed to go really well, I popped in on our Girls’ Brigade group to talk about our expectations using the 4Rs: respect of yourself, respect of other young people, respect of leaders and respect of the facilities.  Amicus was doing a mobi-mission – treasure hunt using mobile phones – answers to clues are texted into a central leader, and they reply with directions for the next clue.  It worked well, but I think we could improve the technology side of it, poor Stephen was being bombarded with messages at a couple of points.

Saturday was a chill day, and an opportunity for me to catch up with some of my Sunday prep that I hadn’t managed to fit into the week.  Hannah and I did some baking in preparation for hosting house group this week.

Sunday was our church’s anniversarey Sunday, and Andy Caldwell from Mutley Baptist was preaching.  I sneaked into the second service and was really encouraged by the message of perseverance he preached.  In the first service in R’n’R (our 11-14 year olds group) we spent time thinking about the media and TV, and what would God’s rating on TV look like – I was quite nervous about pulling the session together but it seemed to go really well.  Sunday night was as manic as normal speaking to both our groups: Junior SNR (11-14 year olds) were continuing to look at Samuel, and the need ot be brave and honest and Senior SNR (14-18 year olds) were continuing to look at people Jesus met, this week thinking about Zacchaeus and that no matter how we are God loves us and accepts us.  Had some good pastoral conversations with young people, and did a brief baptism class for one of the young people before heading home.

On my task list this week: planning for our summer residential, attending a training day on qualatitve and quantitive target setting in youth work, being involved in a transition day at a local secondary school, and writing some sessions for a Boys’ Brigade weekend away.
