The weekend that was: Friday night was great. I had the night off to go to Jon’s stag do, which was spent eating lots of great food in Chilli’s and then hanging out together at the pub afterwards. Although a late drive home, it was a joy to be a part of. It was also nice to be able to pop in to Willowbrook and say hello to staff and pupils again.
What was absolutley gutting was to hear that Carole Paulson, one of the key children’s and youth volunteers was killed in a road accident in Brentwood on Friday (more on that to follow). Despire that, Saturday was a lovely time with Hannah’s family, her grandad for his birthday took the family to see Joseph and for a posh meal afterwards. It is always a great occasion, and this year was even better as one of the actors is from TBC.
Sunday was a challenge leading Club Sunday (a group for 5-11 year olds) on “Blessed are those who mourn”, tough in normal circumstances, but tougher given the news we heard on Friday night. The afternoon was a long meeting with the Residential Planning Team going over our week of summer camp. There were some really helpful thoughts coming out, especially on creative ways to do devotions, and how are we involving young people in using their gifts but at the same time allowing them to receive teaching and ministry.
The evening was slightly bizarre in that it was my baptism service! Having grown up in the Church of England, it’s something that I hadn’t done, but the more I studied and thought about I knew I needed to do. Coming to TBC really gave me the chance, and the situation to do it. It was a great service, and a real privilege to be involved in helping baptise the four other people.
On my to-do list this week: Scheduling regular meeting dates, following the diary planning of last week. Also trying to get my ahead around future material for our groups.
Procrastinating about: Getting up in the morning – I’ve not been good at it and I’m determined to do it, so let me publicly state that and hope it might help.
Book I’m in the midst of: Finished a couple of books last week, hoping to finish the Women’s Practical Theology this week.
Music that I’ve been working along to: Back into the old classics like The Lightning Seeds and Oasis.
How i’m feeling about this week: Relaxed.
