This last weekend felt a lot more chilled even though it was busy – a nice feeling.
The weekend that was: Friday night we opened up Amicus (our 14-18 year olds Brigade group) for a fundraiser for two of young people who are hoping to go to Israel next summer with a Christian musical they’ve been involved in. It was a good night with an extra dozen young people.
Saturday was a day off and for the first time in a while we slept late (ie 9.00am!), and then got on and went to the church Art & Craft exhibition. It was great to see so many talents, that members of the churc have. We picked up one or two Christmas presents, and also a wonderful painting from a retired baptist minister, who had some great stories to tell. In the afternoon I baked some cakes for a cake sale, and did some prep for the Sunday morning family service.
The evening was Indian meal deal from Sainsbury’s and watching Strictly Come Dancing. – life can’t get much better Following on from that I spent some time with Hannah going through a bunch of paperwork that had been accumulating on my desk, and trying to bring some control back around my life. I’ve now got my calendar and task list on the computer at home, which means Hannah can input more fully into the diary, and trying to make sure it stays balanced – I’m thinking that is going to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. She was great as she helped me work through a big pile of things, and calendar in time to get the admin done in the next few weeks – what a wonderful wife!
Sunday morning was our family parade service, which I was leading on my own. We looked at the life of Joshua, and how God is faithful, even when are scared or struggle with what we’re to do he will be with us. One of the Boys’ Brigade leaders came over half-way through and asked to share some testimony that really added weight to what I had been sharing. It was a good service, but certainly room for improvement.
The rest of the day was focussed around two fundraisers – firstly the two girls who we did the event for on Friday were doing a mass car wash – that seemed to go really well; and in the evening my house group did a cake sale to raise money for some missionaries who our church supports. A great time. Youth work with our 11-14s was entertaining, I felt it had a better feel this time than a month ago so I came away happy.
On my to-do list this week: Lots of little admin tasks, some writing for Christmas, thoughts on goals for the next 9 months, and attending the Youthwork Conference.
Procrastinating about: Preparation for Christmas – Jon needed my material a month ago so I’m well behind.
Book I’m in the midst of: Just finished a couple of small books which I’ll post reviews in the next week, got a pile of new books to review so better get reading!
Music that I’ve been working along to: Loving the new Verve album – go check it out.
How I’m feeling about this week: Hoping we can shrink the task list.
