The weekend that was: The weekend at church was themed around wrapping and filling shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child starting with our Boys and Girls Brigade groups on Friday night. We continued this on Sunday with our 11-14s in the morning and 14-18s in the evening. I think we managed to get them all wrapped up and ready to be sent off by late Sunday night.
We’ve seen some progress with our house move and so Saturday morning we spent 3 and a bit hours doing all the paperwork with the financial advisor. Hopefully if it all goes smoothly we should be in the new house in the next 4-8 weeks.
In the afternoon I met with an older man in our church who has agreed to mentor me, to encourage me and to hold me accountable. It was a great time to share life with each other, and certainly has encouraged me to look at the way I structure my day to ensure I get the best balance in it so as to be more efficient and energised throughout the day. In the evening we had dinner with two couples from the church, it was a great night, highlighted by the fact that when we looked at the watch it was already 12.30!
With the start of advent the youth work at TBC started a series on Christmas: Walking in the footsteps of … that Jon (who really needs to blog again) and I wrote this autumn. A massive thank you to Jon as it seemed to really click for many of our young people. We started this week with Mary and Joseph and looking at how the first Christmas looks to us like a mess, an Eastenders story line of teen pregnancy, possible break down of a relationship; how God continues to look for young people to be like Mary and Joseph – to pursue obedience and faithfulness, whatever the cost, to trust God – even though the outcome seems unsure.
Procrastinating about: Writing my goals and targets.
Book I’m in the midst of: I picked up a copy of The Shack last weekend so working my way through that – look out soon for a review.
Music that I’ve been working along to: I’ve been listening a lot to the Worship Central podcast recently.
How I’m feeling about this week: Hoping we can shrink the task list.
