Q&A with Mike P:

How do you disciple those from the opposite gender:

It’s difficult, and increasingly so, but there are still activities you can do with those from the opposite gender.  For example, Mike gets involved in cooking dinner with small groups of girls from his youth ministry to hang out with them.

Who do you start with?

You can’t force anyone who isn’t ready, go with those who are ready, you don’t always have to start with the nightmare young person.  Create a culture and others will want to join in.

How do the “I” worship songs fit within our community of Israel and Church?

Even “I” songs are more of a community activity than poetry or art, for example.  There should be more “we” songs but at the same time in the same way a family are corporate and yet each of the individuals can feel special, and so that’s the case with church.  Lots of discussion about “Jesus is my boyfriend songs” – there is an element of it being very sickly sweet, but Mike personally doesn’t agree you guys can’t sing songs like “You’re Beautiful”, guys full of the Spirit can.  Don’t think we need to church in a more masculine way to the lessening of the feminine way, we need to do church.  All of us have element of feminine and masculine – we can do both.
